Well, well, well. The picture of dear husband being Darth Weasley (see previous post) is not forthcoming. His parents took it and apparently are loathe to see it posted on the internet. Go figure. Well, you can picture a guy, 6'2", reddish hair, glasses, a Darth Vader Helmet (no mask, just the stormtrooper-looking black thing) and a Gryffindor house scarf -- he put on what the kids peeled off as they Trick-or-Treated. Hilarious ... I'll get the pics ... promise.
Weasley Knitting
I'm chugging along on the Gryffindor socks. You'll remember that I got the yarn from Sunshine Yarns on Alison's tip. I'm also copying Alison's patterning by not allowing the yellow to get mucky on the slip-stitched heel. (Children, the word for the day is sycophantic...). I'm not sure how Alison did it, but my solution requires spit-joining several maroon sections together after cutting out the yellow. I cut two of the plys out of each side of the join, put them together so they overlap up to the cut places on each, "moisten" the join, then rub the sh*t out of it in my palm. Heat + friction + moisture = felt Or at least a really strong join that does not change the gauge of the knitted sock...
I'm knitting these on size 1.5 US 5" long birch double-pointed needles. Could have done the two socks on two circulars, but the circulars are otherwise engaged...How do people limit themselves to one project at a time?
I've also begun some Gryffindor house mittens -- leftover yarn, ya know -- but I'm only a cuff into them and the picture isn't that significant. Suffice to say that they will match the scarf and I'm using my trusty Ann Norling pattern.
On to my next fixation...
Which is these little sweaters! Aren't they perfect teacher gifts? I mean we have like 11 if you include tutoring and music...coaches and all. I think I'll Weasley them and add initials in duplicate stitches. And of course little hangers. And God knows I have enough left-over sock yarn! The pattern is in this book but also all over the place -- just google knitted sweater ornament or mini knitted sweater or something like that. This one is out of sock yarn, knitted on 1's. It took an hour and 15 mins, including weaving in! And was virtually free! I love it when I'm in love with something that is not food and is free...
By the way, that is a quarter for scale. I need a course in photography. And maybe some counseling. For my fixations and all...
I had thought that tip about cutting out the stripe was so cool. But I'd be afraid I'd mess it all up... o_O
ps. thanks for being the first non-relative to post on my blog! ;)

That is the cutest little bitty sweater! I'm sure you wrote something about it, but I can't read it. How quickly can you knit that tiny little thing?
