I re-read last night's post and it sure is full of hum-bug. Which I am not.
See? The stockings are hung by the chimney with care.
Dear Son informed us that Santa has a tradition about our stockings. That he leaves stuffed M&M characters with candy in them each year. He went on to prove his postulation by pulling two M&M Christmas characters out of his closet -- one from last year and one from the year before. (This feat of Herculean proportion is of significance only to those of you who have seen this closet...) This was news to Santa, let me tell you. So two M&M characters, one blue Obi-wan and one green reindeer now reside in the Christmas closet awaiting the big night. Santa may be suffering from some kind of overload -- makes him forgetful.
The stockings were knit for us by my dear MIL. She is a very talented knitter and all-around lovely woman. I'm lucky to have married into her family.
And, see? The tree is all decorated. Don't look too closely, though. The elves, being short, only get ornaments part-way up the tree and the head elf was watching football, so...and does it look like that tree leans a little to the left to you? Yes, I thought so. But I didn't have to put it up this year. I only had to take it partially apart on Monday morning and put lights on the half that didn't get any -- football again, I suspect -- and reassemble it and put on the ribbon and the large glass ornaments... I don't want to be critical... I tried to put that one sproingy Santa up high, to, you know, even out the ornament distribution? The change was noted and I have since been asked to cease and desist any rearrangement of ornaments on penalty ... of something, I didn't ask. Rrrrright. And I'm not holding my breath for the furniture to get moved back into position or the boxes to get put away either. We've got days before that's an issue.
So. What was I saying? Oh, and the wrapping. That's done. I did that in the kitchen while dear son was sleeping off his stomach flu. I only had to stop twice to get laundry out of the machine. See. I'll put it all away when the head elf has done his wrapping. He wants it right here so he can find it...Rrrright again.
And cookies. We've made cookies. Dear Daughter baked and baked yesterday. And let me inform those of you who are worried, that Dear Son is recovered. More so than I thought. The number of cookies mysteriously missing is a testament to his recovery. All hail recovery!
The 7th grade
Christmas party was yesterday too. Yes, Virginia, we can say Christmas at our little Catholic school. Fox network raves not withstanding , we've always said Christmas. And the Christmas gifts I knit the teachers? I think they liked them, but since I had a sick (or so I thought -- to his credit, he might still have been weak) boy at home, I had to miss them. I just sent in the 50 TREAT BAGS I assembled, the gifts I knit and the good wishes with Dear Daughter. She can't remember exactly what the teachers said about the gifts. A movie was on...
Today, I get to go work at my LYS. I'll take Dear Daughter with me and Dear Son will go with Dad to his Holiday party at the office. No booze, just gag gifts. Whew. Same tomorrow. And then it's Christmas Eve. Finally. Maybe it'll snow...See? No hum-bug here -- not an ounce.
You are a busy little bee. Glad to hear B is feeling better. Hope K doesn't really come down with it.
