Drink. Well, what I'm posting about isn't actually numbered here, but I'm sure it qualifies for taking a shot. This game cracks me up. I guess it's because I was in college (1980-84) during the Dynasty drinking craze and we took a drink of beer every time Crystal or Alexis ... oh, sheesh, I can't remember what they had to do to get the whole room swilling cheap Cincinnati beer, usually Red, White and Blue or something gross like that, but it was something that came up a lot.
Yeah, I can't knit that shrug. Right now. I'm just not in the mood to do all that counting and cabling -- it's a pain in the... and I just plain don't want to. The purl count on every one of the 36 pattern repeat rows is different. I was tied like a giant to that Lilliputian chart. No. So, I ripped all 16 rows of it (didn't even take a picture), and pulled out these.
Aren't they lovely? They're new -- less than $12.00 each "used" from Amazon. These books are seriously not used. I'm still waiting for number two which was from a different seller. Anyway, in the green one, number 4, I found this pattern. It's called "Flame and Wave". Perfect for Olympic knitting, no? I'm knitting a shrug to the same dimensions of the one in IK -- I like the "thick blanket around my shoulders" look of that one. The yarn in my Cherry Tree Hill Potluck Bulky Wool in the Blues and Greens colorway. I hereby christen this shawl "Amanda's Shawl." I'll knit either a braid or some shawl edging onto the sleeves after they're seamed to give them a little "sompun sompun" (you know the colloquialism I'm looking for here -- how do you spell that?). And today, I got nothing but time after church to sit, a fire in the fireplace, watch Olympics, and knit. So there.
The Word for today is :
eleemosynary \el-uh-MOS-uh-ner-ee\, adjective:
1. Of or for charity; charitable; as, "an eleemosynary institution."
2. Given in charity or alms; having the nature of alms; as, "eleemosynary assistance."
3. Supported by charity; as, "eleemosynary poor."
I humbly admit to never having heard or seen this word before in my life and I also declare that I will use it in a sentence in the next 24 hours if it kills me. Because I'll bet whomever I'm talking to will not have heard it before either and they'll think it's slightly dirty. I'll let you know.
I'm honored....
From whence came this word of the day? I like it and will try to use it as well. How about "I am not feeling very eleemosynary today?"

I'm so glad you didn't drop out of the Olympics completely. I'm doing the Cabled Shrug....and the ONLY way I could make it happen was to write out the directions (no chart)....that chart was maddening!
I love the new stitch you are going to do the shrug in.
