I've gotten a few updates from the many knitters involved in the knitalong. Click around in the sidebar too and see what everyone's doing. I've got to say, I'm very excited about this. We've got 30 knitters signed up from all over the country! And, while I know that charity is really supposed to go quietly to it's recipient, I can't help being proud of the generosity of the knitting community. You know, folks come into the shop all the time wanting us to hand-knit them things. "Oh, I'll pay for your time" they say. We laugh. Even if we charged a paltry hourly rate, with yarn, a sweater would be in the hundreds of dollars, socks too. And here you are, all knitting away for others ...You all rock.
- Pat K has gotten started on a hat, ribbing only so far so no pics yet. Thanks, Pat!
- Jenny says she's had setbacks, but look at the beginnings she has of a peach and brown blanket for Squares 4 Survivors -- she's trying different techniques; the one on top is from Barbara Walker's Sampler Knitting Book. Looking good, Jenny!
- I've got one hat down -- the one-skein hat from the Candy label --
and I've begun a blanket. Sister says lap warmers for the elderly and blankets
for babies would be very welcome. Chunky yarn here I come -- I can't knit blankets that fast!
And you all were certainly looking east on Friday night! We expected 300 to our first Fish Fry, You know the one where our newly formed "band" was to play our first gig? We served 500 dinners! We used more than half of our food for this week, stayed open an hour later, had a line that snaked around the cafeteria, and got to sing our whole set through twice! What a great night. I mean we only have like 380 parishioners so folks came from all around! Great fun, hard work and .... actually.... pretty good fish! Can't wait until next week!
Good for you! I regret to say I'm plugging away at the school auction shawl for the moment. I'll need a break from it at some point, though.

How cool for you and the band! (Is it okay to say cool, or am I hopelessly out of date on language?) I miss the good fish fries you can get "east" of here. Out here they raise money by selling tamales after Mass. Good, but it isn't fish!

Yay!! Yay!! Yay!! I'm so happy for you and your band and excited for the "40 Days" knitalong!!! I got my yarn yesterday - in addition to little cardigan or two do you think they could flannel blankets for babies?

Sorry about that weird shorthand - I'm feeding the baby and typing with one hand. hehe

One baby hat for you as well. I was thinking about washcloths as well. Would they be of any use?
