A few updates here ... and a story.
- Jenny says: Hi Annie! ... It was
probably Tuesday when I realized. I have totally made the switch to crocheting for
these afghan squares. I am making much better progress that way. Gosh, that
garter stitch grafting and I did NOT get along AT ALL. I sat with the diagram in
front of me, and tried at least 6 or 8 times, to no avail. I'd add a row, or
take out a row, since I knew that it had to be a ridge against a valley to work.
But, I couldn't tell the difference, no matter how hard I looked, and it always
came out wrong. Finally, when I found a dropped stitch that I couldn't rescue, I
called it quits on that. Now, with crocheting, I have completed 6 lovely
squares, which is more than triple what I was getting done with the knitting.
But, after all, the subject is charity! Our very lovely group has completed 22
afghans and has delivered them, and we are working on 23 more to complete and
deliver. We also have on-going lapghan projects for nursing homes at all
times. We are working hard, and having fun! Thanks Annie!! Jenny.
22 afghans done! Man...that's a lot of afghans. Great work Jenny.
- Amanda is working on a blanket for a Knit the Classics knit along and for Warm the world. It also fits in wit Project Spectrum for April. Way to multi-task Amanda!
- Carina is working on a sweater and had some medical news this week. Keep on keeping on,Carina.
- Danielle's got an awful lot of knitting going on...some of it is hats for charity. Wow.
- Jennifer is working on a Warm the World Afghan.
- Lana's got Project Spectrum going and lots of preemie hats. I mean lots. That girl can knit preemie hats...
- Shelly is working on a lovely blanket for her charity -- it was started by a family who lost a newborn... Good karma Shelly, and a lovely blanket.
And being that next week is holy week, I'd better get on the stick. Finish the blanket and the socks. Right.
And now, the story. You know the game "6 Degrees of Separation"? Where you get someone to think of any actor and then you try to get to Kevin Bacon by naming no more than 6 movies shared by other actors...ok this is hard to explain. Better to illustrate: Say you name Bruce Willis, then you have to say he starred with so-and-so in this-and-such movie who starred with so-and-so in this-and-such, etc. until you can come up with someone who was in a movie with Kevin Bacon...I'd come up with real names and movies (Amanda could do it...) but I suck at this game.
I like the idea of it though. And somewhere I've heard it said that if you knew enough people you could come up with a
6 Degrees scenario for any two people in the world...That boggles the mind a little and I'm not exactly sure that could work. But...in blogland? I think there are a lot fewer degrees of separation...like one.
Just a

fter I started the 40 Days for Others Knitalong, I got an email. From a Kate in Phoenix. Never heard of her, but she had read about the knitalong and wanted to join. She had a question first though, because she had read my rationale for the knitalong and saw St. Pius in it: Is this the same St. Pius in St. Louis where she was married? Did I know her dad, Dave? Whoa. I know Dave well, we were on the school board together...Kate is from St. Louis, was married in our church, moved to Phoenix, knits, reads knitting blogs and found me...She visited her family this weekend and brought these: Three baby hats and three scarves. So...only 1 degree in knitblogland...Great to meet you Kate!
