So I joined SP8 and I'm supposed to answer a bunch of questions...so here I go...
1. What is/are your favorite yarn/s to knit with? What fibers do you absolutely *not* like?
I'm a hand-dyed sock or shawl yarn kinda gal. Mostly natural fibers for me. A yarn snob if you will...and proud of it [smile].
2. What do you use to store your needles/hooks in?
I have a couple of cases, one for straights and one for circular, but I'm dying to get something special for my dpns ... hint, hint.
3. How long have you been knitting? Would you consider your skill level to be beginner, intermediate or advanced?
Intermediate to advanced when the mood hits.
4. Do you have an Amazon or other online wish list?
nope -- I can get books cheap at the shop where I work...
5. What's your favorite scent? (for candles, bath products etc.)
Vanilla only please...I'm seriously allergic to the base they use for florals. It induces asthma...I generally stay away from scents.
6. Do you have a sweet tooth? Favorite candy?
Why dark chocolate, of course.
7. What other crafts or Do-It-Yourself things do you like to do? Do you spin?
I don't spin and I only crochet insofar as it's required to finish some projects. I love gardening, but don't have as much time for it as I used to. I read voraciously though.
8. What kind of music do you like? Can your computer/stereo play MP3s? (if your buddy wants to make you a CD)
Sorry, not really a CD kind of gal, but you can try to convert me if you want to...
9. What's your favorite color? Or--do you have a color family/season/palette you prefer? Any colors you just can't stand?
Autumn colors are good with my red hair, but I also have blue eyes so I can do spring colors too.
10. What is your family situation? Do you have any pets?
I am a mostly stay-at-home mom with two kids and a husband. I have a rescue dog whom I love dearly.
11. Do you wear scarves, hats, mittens or ponchos?
No hats, my hair's too thick and it pushes them off. The rest, yes...
12. What is/are your favorite item/s to knit?
I love to knit socks. And lace.
13. What are you knitting right now?
Well, now, that's embarrassing. Do you mean what do I pick up to knit once a week or do you mean what do I have on needles? I'll answer the first...socks and a shawl and a sweater vest and a sweater. Oh and a poncho-ey thing.
14. Do you like to receive handmade gifts?
Love them! Just no smells please.
15. Do you prefer straight or circular needles? Bamboo, aluminum, plastic?
Depends on the project, but I do not knit with 14 inch straights at all. Should give them away. Hate them...they make my thumbs fall asleep. So...circular I guess and metal or wood depending. And dpns. Love those.
16. Do you own a yarn winder and/or swift?
Both.
17. How did you learn to knit?
I taught myself out of a book. But I've learned loads from my lys owner and co-workers since then.
18. How old is your oldest UFO?
Very. And that's all I'm saying.
19. What is your favorite holiday?
All of them...any excuse to throw a party.
20. Is there anything that you collect?
Yes. Yarn. Oh, and Depression Era glass and pottery.
21. Any books, yarns, needles or patterns out there you are dying to get your hands on? What knitting magazine subscriptions do you have?
I quit my subscriptions -- just got sick of not wanting to knit anything out of them. I look at the magazines when we get them at the shop and buy the ones I want. I'd love the Not Just Socks series of books.
22. Are there any new techniques you'd like to learn?
Hmmm. I'm planning on doing some dyeing...experimentation that is. But I have a book on it.
23. Are you a sock knitter? What are your foot measurements?
Well, now that you ask...yes. I wear a size 10 medium shoe (peasant feet...hands too) and my foot is a scoche longer than 10 inches.
24. When is your birthday? (mm/dd)
July 30th....and yes, I'll tell...1962. I'm older than some and younger than others. But I act immature so that's a good thing. A lot more effective than face cream at making folks think you're younger than you are.
All done. Is that enough?
